This One Time I had a 12 Hour Lay Over in Germany.....

So this one time I had a 12 hour lay over in Germany…

After a quick 10 hour flight we arrived in Frankfurt, Germany. The airplane was a good time to get some much-needed rest for out time zone change.  Unfortunately my seat partner MJ and I never slept. Our time consisted of watching movies, telling stories, and not being able to fall asleep. Once reaching Frankfurt we realized that it was 8 in the morning, our flight did not leave until 8:30 pm….shoot. So we hit the town. Jet Lag was and understatement. I felt like I had been heavily sedated…. struggle. I would have been the perfect target for a robbery. ( No worries, this did not happen, just saying if I were to rob someone I would have picked me )

MJ and I after hour 9 on the plane...

Meet My Friend MJ......

My friend MJ also had a difficult time in Germany. Not listening to recommendations to only carry on a backpack because we would be exploring Germany during our lay over, she brought a baby pink roller. Down stairs, on cobbled roads, and through cathedrals she pulled her bag. Definition American Tourist. Although this was amusing and a great photo op—it almost was the cause of her demise and the end of her time with us on the trip….On the bus our fearless leader Steve warned us that the next stop was ours. We grabbed our bags in preparation to get off. MJ thought this time would be fitting to organize the contents within her baby pink roller. As we got off, we noticed that MJ was not with us. Steve urgently motioned that she had to get off. MJ attempted to zip her bag, but she realized she did not have the time. She closed her bag and went for the door, but suddenly the metal doors began closing Steve tried to hold the doors open using incredible strength. MJ got out, but her bag was stuck in the train, luckily she still had the handle. She pulled, and twisted, and pulled some more and sure enough her bag came out as the train went rushing away. That was a close one.

wow

She fits in so well....

And again.

Jet Lagged in Germany

Landed…

We landed in Namibia after another ten hour flight from Frankfurt! Our group lined up to go through customs. I went through smoothly and went to look for my bags. Much to my surprise I was the only one who got through customs. My group was taken back for questioning and had to hand over their passports…I must have a trusting face. Thankfully they let them off, it would have been a lot different doing this on my own!

We arrived at Casa Blanca hotel where we will be staying for the next 2 months. It is a beautiful complex right outside of Windhoek city. The hotel is made of white stucco with terraces dripping in pink flowers. I have two roommates Janelle and Jessica. We share a quaint room with a bathroom, and our own courtyard. Once unpacking Bri and I went for a run, it was much needed and felt good after 36 HOURS OF TRAVELING.

Tonight we are having a Braii or a barbeque. We are playing the fun game of staying awake—in order to adjust to our new time zone…harder than it seems. We are all excited to get adjusted. This week we have registration, which we hear is a grueling process. Families will come to try and get their kids into school. From what we hear it is a heartbreaking experience when students are turned away because they don’t have enough money. The school year starts for them next week, and so will our student teaching. In a couple of days we will head up north to do a little exploring J
More to come…hopefully more interesting…
