In elementary school there is nothing better than Valentine's Day. Making Valentine's boxes. Choosing between Spiderman, Princess, Hannah Montana, or Care Bear Valentines. Picking out candy to share with your classmates. Exchanging Valentines. Valentines parties. Candy. More Candy. And at the end of the day you go home with a box full of sweets from your fellow classmates.
Our Namibian Valentines was a little different. I shared a read- a-loud of Arthur's Valentine, and then gave each student a third of red construction paper to make their own Valentine. They each got a stick of gum at the end of the day. It was simple, and beautiful. Love was all around.
