Welcome To a Day in The Life Of Miss. Kari's Class

We are officially in full swing of student teaching. I teach 8 periods a day starting at 7:20 am. This week in addition to being the 7th grade English and Environment teacher, I am now the Art, Music, and Drama teacher for the 7th grade. One of my lovely friends and fellow student teacher informed someone at our school that my emphasis is art. SO naturally I have now not only become the art, music, drama teacher but will also be observed by other teachers so they can be trained to teach these courses when I leave.... I am a little concerned for the music, drama aspect, but fake it till' you make it!

Here are some pictures from the past week in my classroom! I broke up my classes in groups to research and present the parts of the environment. This seemed like a new concept to them, but it turned out great and was a lot of fun!

My new friend Enough. I asked her how she got that name, she said that her mom did not want anymore children after she was born so she decided to name her Enough. I thought this was funny but it is very common in Namibia to name children in this manner. Enough wants to be a scientist so she can find a cure to Aids. During break she is teaching me to speak Herero. Love her.

Such engaged students!

Messages around the school yard.

                                                             Art, Art, Art
These pictures are from my first art lesson at Moses. We learned about Pablo Picasso and made self portraits using Cubism. Cubism is an art form where you make images out of geometrical shapes. Their projects turned out great!

Obviously this is Miss. Kari and  Miss. Bri. We made these examples the night before.

Katie is Heading Home :(

Our dear friend Katie and our professors are heading home tonight to begin spring semester at PLU. Katie is a Global Studies and World Health major and has been working at the orphanage in Katatura and our schools. Because of her work here she has connected all of us to the orphanage. We all take turns going there after school to tutor the children and play. The children adore her and she will be missed by all. Love you Katie :)

Gustav biting Katie for the last time.......

Goodbye Dinner at Joe's Beer House. We ate Zebra... I hate myself for it.
